There are two parts to this assignment.
1. A short essay
2. Responses to classmates’ contributions.
In this assignment, you are asked to present research articles on your research topic.
General
themes from these articles are to be presented and used to reinforce/justify your research
proposal in
the following areas:
1. What does the research currently know about the problem/issue you are addressing?
2. How does your research proposal fill a practical, theoretical, scientific knowledge
gap?
3. How is your research proposal unique from other research studies looking at the same
problem/issue?
4. Are there other researchers who are supporting the need to address your identified
problem/issue?
5. Are there other researchers who believe the research will benefit a group/community?
Please be sure to structure your essay appropriately with a beginning introduction, middle and
end. Your sentences will have to be concise given the restriction on the length of the
assignment.

500-600 words. Please refer to the

The marking rubric for this assignment is outlined below.
Short Essay – This is worth 12% of your mark.
Assignment basics

literature reviewed is broad.
Article Themes—-Well organized, demonstrates logical sequencing and structure;
critical thinking (e.g. shows strengths and shortcomings of research proposed).
Background/Foundation——Detailed conclusions are reached from the evidence
offered.
Research Question—– research question is stated clearly and supported through the
literature.

References——references are relevant to research topic and are of high quality.
Information is cited properly and in APA format.
Presentation
Length——Adheres to 500-600 word maximum.
Organization—- Paper is well organized (i.e. beginning, middle, end); relationship
between ideas are clear, nice flow.
Format——Font, spacing, and APA format are correct.
Punctuation/Grammar/Spelling—–There are no errors.
Responses to Classmates’ Contributions—This is worth 3% of your mark.
Given the lengthier nature of this assignment, you are expected to provide feedback to
at least 1 classmate for this assignment. However please feel free to provide feedback
to 3 classmates if you wish.
